Speaking with Words of Peace
Clean Speech Cleveland 2026
As President of the Board of a local non-profit organization (ORT – Midwest Region), I was asked to participate in the 2026 Clean Speech Cleveland Campaign. This year’s campaign focused on the importance of “shalom,” the Hebrew word for peace. I created this video for the campaign and wanted to take it deeper to see how I could apply this to my work as a medical malpractice and wrongful death attorney.
How peace and conflict interact in medical malpractice and wrongful death law
Conflict is the opposite of peace. But does an absence of conflict mean there is peace? No. It takes more than just the absence of conflict to create real peace.
As a medical malpractice attorney, I represent people and families who have suffered serious, life-changing injuries. They deserve to be compensated for the harms and losses that have been caused by a medical mistake. That requires balancing the scales of justice: the amount of harm that has been caused on one side must be balanced with an equal amount of compensation on the other side:
Unfortunately, the insurance companies and hospitals who are responsible for causing the harms and losses almost never want to be held accountable. This causes a conflict, which destroys peace. Far too often, the insurance companies and hospitals want everyone to simply walk away from the conflict, suggesting that its absence will magically bring peace. But there cannot be real peace without fair compensation.
At the Eisen Law Firm, we understand what it means – and what it takes – to balance the scales of justice and obtain fair compensation. If you’ve suffered a serious injury, it’s not enough to just cover your medical bills. If you’ve lost a loved one, it’s not enough to just supplement their lost wages. That may alleviate some of the conflict, but it does not achieve real peace.
Peace Is a Call To Action
The main takeaway from this year’s campaign is that it takes more to achieve peace than simply removing or avoiding conflict. Peace is a call to action. It takes focus, determination, and hard work. I’m constantly trying to do more – through words and action – to help my clients, my community, and the rest of the world achieve peace.
