Cleveland Malpractice Attorneys Get to the Bottom of Inaccurate Aneurysm Treatments
Aneurysms are extremely dangerous when not treated properly and quickly
An “aneurysm” is a bulge in a blood vessel that develops because of a weakness in the wall of the vessel. As blood flows through the vessel, the weakened area bulges outward. As it does, the bulging wall becomes thinner and thinner. Eventually, it leaks blood. If nothing is done to stop it from bulging, the vessel may burst (or “rupture”). A ruptured aneurysm can quickly cause shock and death. The aneurysm malpractice attorneys at The Eisen Law Firm in Cleveland hold doctors and hospitals accountable when they inaccurately treat aneurysms and tragedies occur.
What is an aneurysm?
Aneurysms that form in large blood vessels are particularly dangerous. If they rupture, death usually is rapid and unpreventable. The aorta is the main artery in the human body. It carries blood away from the left side of the heart and down through the chest and abdomen, where it splits into two arteries. Smaller arteries branch off of the aorta and deliver blood to the brain and other vital organs and tissues.
Sometimes, a weakness will develop in the wall of the aorta, either in the area of the chest (a thoracic aneurysm) or in the abdomen (an abdominal aortic aneurysm or “AAA”). As blood flows through the aorta the weak area is stretched and can rupture. Sometimes blood tears apart the layers of the vessel wall, causing extreme pain. This happens most often in the chest area and is known as a “thoracic dissection.”
Abdominal aortic aneurysm, thoracic aneurysm, and thoracic dissection are all treatable if diagnosed promptly – before the aorta ruptures. Unfortunately, sometimes doctors negligently fail to diagnose these conditions, missing clear warning signs of an aneurysm until it is too late.
